this fragile shelter

here, this fragile shelter of bone and blood and flesh
once, we called it indestructable fortress
our trust in
so absolute, we never thought to call it faith
now the wind sings through our aching bones
our hearts shivering and skipping in this electrical storm
and we understand, yes we truly know
this indestructable fortress is only a fragile sukkah
and every breath and every heartbeat
we, storm-ravaged, know is from GD
every breath and every heartbeat every day every night
every moment now is an act of faith
we breathe, and trust to GD there will be another breath
our hearts beat, and trust to GD there will be another beat
and this fragile sukkah these weakened bodies
will withstand this storm
listen, i know, we are in the darkest night now
we sway, stumble, fall --our hope is flickering
still-remember this: the One who formed us
who built this sukkah of flesh and blood and bone
made us fragile and strong
made us to be hurt--and to be healed
to remain standing ravaged and battered but whole
when at last dawn rises.
