Hineyni
"Hineyni!"
learning to answer
as he did
to that stirring call
from within
"Hineyni! here I am!"
Not to turn away
hiding my face and my heart
Saying: Later, maybe. Not now, not yet.
Try again some other time.
But to turn to You
With all that I am
Hineyni!: and I open my self to You
When Avraham heard-
perhaps he knew how that story would end
he did not question
I cannot say the same
My mind questions this story yet unwritten
and I cannot see an ending
Still my soul heard You
And cried out in joy:
Hineyni! Hineyni!
Here am I! Here am I!
From a distant land
I set out to follow You
where You draw me.
