Ruth
I imagine sometimes:
how it must have been
standing
in that dusty road
told for the third time:
go back go home
return to your people and your god
i imagine
she would have said
to go back
would not be going home
my home is not there
anymore
i could not say
when it happened:
that your people
became my people
that your G-d
became my G-d
how mine and yours became ours
do not tell me: go back to your people
my place is with our people
do not tell me: go back to your god
my place is with our G-d
Truly, if you send me back
you are sending me among strangers
to serve a strange god
if you wish to send me home
you must bring me with you
